me

About Me: I have been writing since my teens years and got my first poem published at the age of 18. While that was an accomplishment, little did I know then how tough it would be to continue getting published on a regular basis. Suffice it to say the business is a beast, but I have never given up. The literary world is always changing and evolving, particularly in the last decade or so with the advent of digital publishing. It has helped open the playing field for many of us and I believe in both traditional and self - publishing. For me, it's about the writing. Telling a good story, and ultimately sharing your passion with the world of readers.

I write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. Over the years my work has appeared in various print and online publications such as local newspapers, magazines, and trade publications for writers. From 1995 to 2004 I coedited/published the Sour Grapes Newsletter with fellow writer/artist Sheila Foley. It was fun and I learned a lot by being on the other side of the desk. But like all good things, SG had to end.

Although I write in many genres, I prefer dark fiction, particularly ghost stories. Some Credits include: Feelings Poetry Journal, Inkspot, Writer Online, The Writer Magazine, Mind Fire, Flashquake, Writers' Journal, and dozens of anthologies. Recently my stories and poetry have appeared in a small Cape Cod e-zine of which I am a regular contributor. Currently, I'm working on various projects including a novella entitled, The Reluctant Medium. It will set the stage for a ghostly fiction series I hope to have published early next year. However, my husband and I are transitioning to Cape Cod and the move is certainly slowing down my writing agenda. In the meantime, you can also read my Kindle stories: The Shuddering and Creepies available on Amazon.

In addition, I maintain two blogs: The Write Spot for writers, where I share inspirational views on various topics and pass on information I think is of interest or would help writers in some small way. The Sour Grapes Blog (less frequent) is also for writers, where they can vent or share their writing or publishing woes. It's a nod to my former newsletter and I invite writers to read the blog first or contact me for more info. Also see the Sour Grapes page for more info.

Sour Grapes Newsletter b - 1995 d - 2004: catered to writers, poets, artists, and editors alike. The tag line for this unique publication bravely stated: The newsletter for rejected writers and other tormented souls.

I would like to thank my writers group the Stoneham Writers Group, of which I've been a member for twenty - five years, in keeping my head on straight through all the ups and downs of writing and publishing. I credit them with helping me to become a better writer. I would also like to thank my husband Joel, for often being my editor/proofreader, and coach all these years. A writer needs a good support team on her side.

In 2008 and 2009 I participated in the National Novel Writing Month, known as NaNoWriMo, (a world wide event) for writers. Both times I logged over 50k words which brought me to the finish line as the goal is to write that many words in thirty days. My article on this event appeared in Writers' Journal in the December 2009/2010 issue. It was fun, and someday I'd like to do it again.
